Sea Fury "Spirit of Texas" Pilot: Stewart Dawson It starts with a deep murmur from the far side of the course as the pack enters the race course and the pace plane peals away. The race planes soon disappear behind a low rise on the outer portion of the course, but their fury evident by the sounds of howling props echoing off the buffering hills like ghosts of racers past. As the planes round the far apex of the course at pylon 5 and head down the Valley of Speed between pylons 6 and 7, the deep murmur turns into a escalating shrill. Rounding pylon 7, the shrill continues escalates into and flat out scream as the planes close in. As the planes pass over head, the roar of propellers driven by 3000 horsepower starts from deep within the sole as the harmonics rattle every bone in the body... |
